Skipper Celia Bull is an experienced skipper and climber who began sailing in the late 90s when she joined a 10m yacht in Greenland. Entranced by the wildness of the high latitudes, she crewed on a charter boat, working out of the Falkland Islands, and visited South Georgia and Antarctica during film work with the BBC’s Blue Planet team. Following this unique, edifying experience, she bought her own boat, Ada II, and returned to the South Atlantic. For five years, she sailed with expeditions and charters in Patagonia and South Georgia and led an all female trip to Antarctica. Celia lived and sailed with her baby son, Dylan, on Ada before settling down for a few years in Chile. When he was three, she found and bought Selkie in Croatia. Selkie became their home, and they worked their way back to the UK and up to the Isle of Eigg, where they now live and run a croft and Selkie Explorers.
Dean Wiggin Dean joined our crew in 2014 with a wealth of seafaring experience, having worked for many years on fishing boats and kayaking around most of the Scottish islands. What he doesn’t know about wildlife, engines and high adventure on the west coast is hardly worth mentioning. An Eigg resident for the last 15 years, he is also a valued member of the coastguard team. He was also a keen mountaineer and has climbed most of the mountains you will see here as well as some in Asia and South America. He will be on board for all our St Kilda trips, Shetland and Northern Scotland circumnavigation expeditions and winter sails.
Camille DresslerCamille has been living on Eigg for over 30 years and is our local historian, having written Eigg:The Story of an Island. She is an amazing chef and this year came along for our luxury trips, cooking up a storm. Also a Qi Gong and experienced practitioner she is involved with our wellbeing trips.
Tamsin McCarthyTamsin was born on Eigg and has sailed since a child with her family. She has been crewing on Selkie for a few years and is a very accomplished crew member and host. It's always a good craic when she gets out the fiddle for a few tunes.
Dougal Tolan Dougal is Selkie’s ground support on Eigg. An electronic engineer by training, he has been working on Selkie for four years and knows the systems and machinations of the boat like the back of his hand. You won't find him on board during your trip, but it's down to his meticulous work that Selkie sails the waves as a charter boat.
Selkie Volunteers We've had some wonderful helpers this year aboard Selkie. Many thanks to you all: Dioni, Jarda, Alecia, Olivia, Martin, Adrian and Bastian. All marvellously skilled and playing a crucial supporting role both on board Selkie and at the croft, where much of what guests eat on board is raised and grown. If you are interested in volunteering take a look at my profile on HelpX and Workaway, Isle of Eigg.
